but we fear something as elemental and fundamental as epilepsy. we retreat from neurology but van gogh and Dostoevsky and others were part of the first phase of the neurological novel. we’re in the second, what with oliver sacks’s work and the near flood of autism-centered literature.

btw i doubt i can ever reread the brothers k — all that spiritual windbaggery — but love and recommend the idiot, epilepsy seen from within.
